Electrical Technician

We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to join and support our Cavorite X7 engineering team. Responsibilities

  • Read schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot electrical circuit boards and off-board components.
  • Repair and/or replace electrical components as required.
  • Make recommendations for replacement or modification of electrical equipment.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Set up and perform circuit validation testing.
  • Soldering of electrical components to circuit boards, either for board repair or initial population of bare boards.
  • Apply knowledge of current electrical code and CSA standards.
  • Perform comparison and analysis of replacement components, with potential for liaison with manufacturers.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Technical Diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years technical experience in electrical technician role – aerospace, automotive, or aerospace industries preferred
  • Experience using standard electronic lab tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes, AC/DC power supplies
  • Skilled in the use of machine shop, woodworking, and hand tools
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing principles, including GD&T, assembly, and dimensional engineering principles
  • Strong knowledge of prototype and manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles
  • Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Able to apply right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

Key skills

  • Experience installing components on printed circuit boards (PCB) and inspecting for solder defects
  • Experience reading schematic diagrams to aid in troubleshooting PCBs
  • Knowledge of wiring harnesses, connectors, and associated fabrication tooling
  • Knowledge of common external components/sensors and common practices to interface with them, such as servos, loadcells, potentiometers, linear/rotational encoders, solenoids etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting practices and tools, such as insulation resistance testers, multimeters, function generators and oscilloscopes
  • Knowledge of motors and motor drives particularly in the context of drones or eVTOL is an asset
  • Functional understanding of low-level computer tasks such as executing scripts, installing firmware etc.
  • Programming and creation of these scripts is not required, but considered an asset
  • Self-disciplined and capable of working quickly, and has the knowledge to work independently but the confidence to ask for assistance when required.
  • Any design experience considered an asset.

A typical day in the hangar:

  • Start with an engineering scrum meeting
  • Be involved with some of the design process to create a motor-driven test stand, including discussion on the intended function as well as the components that may be used in the build
  • Research parts for the test stand that are commercially available
  • Create wiring harnesses, which may involve crimping of connectors and/or soldering
  • Investigation of a motor driver board that is not communicating. Use of the oscilloscope and associated schematics/architecture documentation for troubleshooting.
